Estate Books, a hidden gem in Franklin's heart

A Bookstore Worth the Trip

When I heard Estate Books was opening at 355 Central Street in Franklin, I made it a point to stop by and check it out. I wanted to see what Brian was bringing to our community—and I was absolutely blown away.

This isn't your typical chain bookstore. Brian's curated collection prioritizes quality over quantity, with selections you simply won't find anywhere else. Whether you're hunting for classic sci-fi, vintage finds from your childhood, contemporary fiction, nonfiction, or even VHS tapes, Estate Books delivers.

Once the word gets out, this is gonna be more than a local go to. I suspect we'll have people traveling specifically to this bookstore.

What's in store

Just getting past the display area at the entrance is a thing in and of itself. It's certainly foreshadows what you're gonna find inside.

Walking in, I immediately noticed the thoughtful curation - rare finds and beloved classics mixed together. I was very excited about the SciFi section. But what really caught my eye was a wall of children's books, including Shel Silverstein's Where the Sidewalk Ends. (A very popular read during my early “reading circle” years.)

Here's the kicker: the book's illustration of where the sidewalk ends looks almost exactly like the actual sidewalk in front of my house on Central Street.

That kind of serendipity tells you something about how well this bookstore fits into our community.

Beyond books, you'll find:

  • VHS tapes (yes, really!) —— “My fair lady” ❤️

  • Coloring books for all ages

  • Blank composition books for writers

  • A wonderfully carefully selected mix of fiction and nonfiction

  • Prices typically at half the cover price

The Estate Books Experience

Brian's approach is refreshingly honest: these are estate books, which means you're getting older publications, vintage finds, and items you might remember from your childhood or early parenthood. It's like treasure hunting, but with books. Rare finds!

The store accepts both cash and credit, and the prices are genuinely reasonable. Whether you're looking to rediscover a beloved childhood read or discover something totally new, Estate Books has something for you. (Check inside first white page)
